ME, Q and Cat

It's been a long time... when did I post last? Before I got married. My husband is perfect for me... When we aren't arguing about food. We like to eat the opposite things. We still like each other just the same, but isn't there something we both like? Fish! We both like fish. Too bad we don't live near the ocean or a fishing lake.

My husband likes to spoil me. Case in point: I want a cat. He lets me have one, even though he has never had a pet before in his life! Our first cat was a black and orange tortoiseshell named Kit. She was a little wild thing that adored us both. She hid from everyone else. She died shortly after we moved into our house. I don't know why. My wonderful niece brought me a cat that her friend was unable to keep. Her name is Melody. She, too, is a black and orange tortoiseshell. She is a little lover. She will sit in your lap and purr, no matter who you are. She likes to have her face in my face. Ahh... Kitty... I want another one. He said I could. Spoiled.

Q (my husband) has been helping me with story development and characters. I struggle with getting my characters to show who they are. They often get lost in the story. I'm a world writer. How the world works is what drives the story. The trouble is, character stories are what's popular right now. It's all about the character and their struggles and choices and how they grow and change because of it. It's hard writing something different and selling it. No one wants a world story. The Lord of the Rings is a world story. The Little House on the Prairie series are world stories. My worlds are fascinating. They pull you in and present the imagination with innumerable possibilities. that's the whole point of world stories. I'm sticking to my guns, but I still need my characters to shine though, like Sam in The Lord of the Rings.

Time to stop writing. Melody is getting jealous of the laptop. It's in my lap instead of her. Cute Kitty.

ANTHROPOLOGY BA

ok so i finally graduated. phew. what a relief. what am i doing now? well i'll tell you. no good. that's what. anyway i'm still doing my dishwashing job. i refuse to quit without another one. and it's fine. it's enough to pay the bills. so, what about the anthropology? yeah well the previous post explained that i am old and broken. the arthritis is a serious pain in my hands and feet. so that has put archaeology on hold for a while. i should be hunting down museum jobs, but i'm too distracted by more interesting and lucrative things. like screenwriting! how i love telling stories! i have a gajillion of them floating around in my head. and they're brilliant! only an idiot would turn away this stuff. i could easily sell multiple scripts every year. a script sells for far more than my current yearly salary. they're so exciting! anyway i'm having fun. so on to the writing! my current project is Fairy Tale. it's almost ready for submission.

DRAGONS

so my favorite race on my world are the dragons. dragons have always fascinated me. and i have often wished they were real. but if they were in this day and age they would soon be killed by idiots. anyway dragons often crop up in my stories because i love them so much. dragons are a mysterious race that no one (on Orean) really knows much about. they are very powerful. they can change their shape and look like other races. they fly, breathe fire and each color of dragon has their own specialty. when dragon turn to evil they lose their power and become weak. this was set in place by the creator as a protection for the peoples of Orean. an evil dragon with full power could cause serious damage. so all dragons are good because they don't want to lose their power. if they do go bad they can always change and become good again. there are many other things about dragons but they are secret. their origins are old and quite unusual and mostly forgotten. even dragons can't remember how they began. but i know of course because after all they were created in my imagination. but that doesn't mean i am willing to share all their secrets at this point in time. pehaps later when they world sees my stories and can figure out what's going on. i hope to write my stories as movies. i have learned that i am better at writing scripts than books.

OREAN BASICS

ok so i just noticed that my blog title isn't reflecting in my posts lately. so a little more of orean.

orean has one creator, who created the world and the races. he is a creator who cares and is willing to help those who ask. he is sad that the elves and the gnomes have gone atheist so helping them has become a little tricky. he does not come where he is not wanted. he doesn't force his hand. people make their own choices - they are NOT his marionettes.

after the creation of the world he created life and death. life is brown like the earth and she carries a baby blanket for the newborns. death is pale and wears a black cloak. he carries a scythe to reap the souls of the dead. life and death are husband and wife. they have a couple thousand children (they're immortal and in love- what do you expect?)

Then come the races. elves, gnomes, dwarves, dragons, imps and more. they have varying degrees of magic. they all live 4-500 yrs. there are no humans on orean.

CREATING STORY

creating story is up a going! join the fun and get the imagination pumping iron! just do it. the first post for each member is anything they have written... poetry... fiction... non-fiction... we even have a petition! if by some chance you have never written anything that is too bad but repentance is around the corner! write something now! if your imagination is totally dead you can just jump in on our first writing exercise... character maps! (click creating story link on side of blog and read details there) anyway it's fun to see what others have written and what others think of your own stuff. there's no such thing as too many writers in this world.

WRITER'S BLOG

i've been thinking. i know many people who are writing stories or want to write stories. so why not encourage them? i was thinking maybe what we need is a writer's blog like the toon club blog. different writer's submit different stuff and everyone else comments. what you like and what you don't like and why. we can also throw out general suggestions and exercises to become better writers. sounds good to me. let me know if y'all are interested. i think it would be fun.

STORIES

ever get that crazy storyline that won't leave your head? what do you do with it? ignore it? drive it out? write it down you numskull! especially if it's twisted by weirdness. look at me i'm writing a story about the relationship between the grim reaper and mother earth. and another one about a book with a bad attitude. not to mention the fantasy series i've been working on. stories are fun and entertaining. even more so when they are your own. so indulge yourself and put that story in your head on paper... or plastic... or whatever you use.

FRACTURED FAIRY TALE

I've started a new story. i think it's frankly hilarious and would love to see it made into a movie by pixar. i think it's right up their alley. or dreamworks. they'd love it too. anyway i think the technical term for what the story is is a fractured fairy tale. fairy tales have always intrigued me and i always wanted to write twists to the well known classics. sleeping beauty and snow white and all that. anyway I've got the story started and I'm anxious to see how it turns out. the problem is i still haven't finished my other books I've started. but i do plan this one to be a short chapter book for kids like the Cordelia story I'm working on. anyway I've got snow white, sleeping beauty, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and the last one is a mix of rose red, beauty (and the beast) and the princess from frog prince. and they're all sisters. well some are step-sisters. but they go through life together and have fun with each other's weaknesses and gullibilities. they also all get along well and love each other dearly. they're even loved by their parents. it's the princes that are the problem. well not all of them but some of them anyway. and some of them just can't help it. one is gorgeous but full of himself. one is hideously ugly. one doesn't want to be king. one falls in love with every girl he sees and with 5 beautiful princesses he seems.... well.... i would say 2-timer but he would really be a 5-timer. he doesn't mean to be he's just so in love with all of them that he can't make up his mind. another prince is just your average joe of princes. and another prince is maliciously evil. i may add more of these rescuers of damsels in distress as the story progresses. but that's what i have to start with. i hope it turns out as funny as i think it will.

DRAGONS

dragons are the coolest. i love dragons. so naturally there are dragons in my stories. dragons are intelligent and all the dragons have the ability to breathe fire and fly and a few other things but different colored dragons have different abilities.
red=lava
blue=water
green=healing
black=shadow
white=light
brown=earth
orange=alchemy
purple=jewel
silver=stone
gold=weather
these are things they can control and generate and use to their advantage (like camouflage and shape shifting).a dragon is always one of these colors. never a mix. a dragon has not been born that can do 2 (or more) color abilities. it is always one. no matter what color the parents are. now if 2 white dragons mate they are most likely to have white children but not necessarily. a red child is quite possible if one of the grandparents are red or even a great-grandparent. if a brown and a black mate most of the children will be brown or black but don't be surprised if there is a gold child.

FRESH MEAT

writing is a lot of work. it is not easy. i have a tendency to leave out details. it is hard to put what is in my head onto paper. i see more than what i write. i have the whole picture in my head but the reader does not. i can't read it like a reader would. i have been driving my brother crazy with having him read it and tell me what's missing. i have to constantly ask him if it's confusing in any way and if all the necessary information is there. he is starting to be useless. because he has already told me the obvious stuff and now he is having a hard time with reading it with fresh eyes because he knows what happens and why. i need fresh meat. (mmmmmm meat. now i'm hungry) anyway if anyone is willing to help me out let me know. i would love to have readers who can tell me what they like and what they don't. but you have to be patient while i continue to tweak the story. it could take a few months before it's ready for more readers.

JOURNAL ENTRY OF A DRAGON

dragons are an oft misunderstood race. it is automatically assumed by people that we are inherently bad. but this is just not so. people think of dragons when a building is on fire or a girl is missing. why would a dragon want a maiden anyway? they're all skin and bones! no meat! at least not enough meat to make it worthwhile. and what would be the purpose of setting a building or field on fire? we need fields for food as much as people do. we are often visited by hostile knights on various quests who feel it is their duty to slay a dragon. fools! what is their reason? to seek the revenge of previous fools who sought to slay us? now be honest. what would you do if someone broke into your home stole your stuff woke you from a sound sleep and tried to rob you of your life? let him have at it? i think not! that would be foolish. you would be dead and the thieving murderer would be free to do it again. no. it is best to stop such nonsense right away. at first i tried to reason with the knight who did these horrible things but they were so full of their own self-righteousness that i had no choice but to kill them out of self defense. i no longer bother to try. i simply fry them and go back to sleep.

WHAT IF SNOW WHITE...

What if Snow White's step-mother was nice and loved her step-daughter?
What if Snow White ran away and met the Dwarves for a reason other than her step-mother trying to kill her?
What if Snow White did not like Prince Charming?
What if Snow White in reality was trying to run away from a stuck up selfish Prince who was convinced that she was crazy for him and wanted to marry him?
What if Snow White fell in love and married a Dwarf instead?
What would the Prince do?
I will have to write all this out. It sounds hysterically funny to me.

CORDELIA

i have been working on a new story. the fairies are at their wits end. they do not know what to do. the magic is gone. they send two young fairies named dolly and georj to go in search of someone who could help them. where should they look? the first human they ever see is a large man who rides a huge green monster that tears up the earth. the monster rider knew a smaller human named cordelia. cordelia is a little girl who plays with two small plastic people. dolly and georj are very curious about cordelia and they follow her around. they watch her play with her plastic friends, clean, eat and play with her dad who can't walk very well. the more they watch her, the more they like her. they wonder if she is the one who can help the fairies.

DAJER & DIJAE

Everytime I turn around there's Dajer and Dijae. Dajer and Dijae are husband and wife. Who are these Dwarves that seem to be everywhere and doing everything at once? They are in the Gnome capital Eisoj. They are in the University at Nocaj. They are at the prison. They are in the Dwarven palace.
Who are they?
They are loyal to the Dwarven Royal Family. They are accomplishing tasks for them. They run errends, spy on criminals, interrogate for information, hunt down enemies, travel to other worlds, protect the Family, provide transportation and anything else they may be called on to do. They are very busy people.
Is that all they are?
I do not think so. There is something about them that is just not Dwarfy. They are different.
But how?

DWARF TWINS

Jane and John are Dwarf twins. They are the daughter and son of King Fredrik and Queen Kelli. They spent a few years in the USA where they did double duty. John was keeping an eye on a Gnome and Jane was keeping an eye on an Elf. They also studied Human politics and issues. After receiving Master's Degrees and serving in a few political offices they returned to Nocaj (Dwarf capital) in Orean at the age of 75 (Humans all thought they were 25). They worked hard to learn everything there is to know about Dwarf politics and compared it to Human politics. They worked together with other Dwarves and made executive decisions (with parental permission of course) using the best policies of both people to make the Dwarf lands a better place to live. With these new innovations working well and Dwarf society on the incline Jane and John wanted to include the Elf and Gnome peoples in their learning and progress. The problem was the Elves and Gnomes were at war with each other. They decide to split up. John goes to Mabid to enlist the help of Enelia the Elf Princess. Jane goes to Eisoj to enlist the help of Ydoc the Gnome Prince. Why the Princess and Prince instead of their parents? Because they were raised among the Humans. Enelia in Ohio. Ydoc in New York. They did not have the predjudices that the other Elves and Gnomes had. They would also soon be Queen and King. They would be able to convince their peoples that war was not the answer to their problems and that there were greater things to do with their time and resources. John and Jane were successful in bringing Enelia and Ydoc to Nacaj and convincing them that they could make a difference to their peoples. But something happened that they did not expect. Something wonderful yet really bad at the same time. John and Jane are at a loss as to what to do.

DELEMETRE

Delemetre is really two different people.
Delemetre number one is my Lady-In-Waiting. She is an amazing Elf. She is always cheerful and has saved my tail more times than I can count. Delemetre has spent most of her life in the Royal Palace at Mabid (the Elf capital) She knows everyone who is anyone and where their loyalties lie. She also knows everything worth knowing in the kingdom. She taught me ettiquette, fashion, manners and attitude. Delemetre taught me to appreciate who and what I am. She taught me that the Elves are not just a sea of faces to be seen through windows but individual people with individual personalities. Delemetre is the kind of person everyone needs to have around.
Delemetre number two is a relation of mine. She was named for Delemetre number one. She had an unusual experience at a young age. She was raised on a prosperous farm by two Orean Humans (see previous entry) One night she is kidnapped by two men. One is an Elf the other Human. The three travel to Mabid where the Elves are in an uproar because the Governor had died and noone knew who would take his place. But the rumors are flying about elections, heredity and appointments. Noone knows for sure how the next Governor will be chosen, but apparently Delemetre has something to do with it.

OREAN

OREAN is a world where humans do not exist. There are many creatures there that do not exist here. Dragons for example and winged horses for another. There are three different races that live there. Elves. Gnomes. Dwarves.
The Elves live in the ancient forests of the west. They love style and splendor. They have no belief in a Higher Being. I am working on that. They'll come around eventually.
Gnomes live in the green forests of the east. They are a small people and love large grandiose architecture. I am working on their religious beliefs as well.
Dwarves live in the mountains of the north. They love to mine for precious metals and jewels deep in the earth. They also love technology and many have spent much time in the human world learning more about it.
There are also those of the Mixed Race. They are not of any one race but of two or (in some cases) all three. These are often called Humans. Do not confuse these with the Humans you and I know here in this world. Orean Humans have no human blood. They live just as long as the other races (400-500 years) and have the use of magic.
Now that you have been well educated you know why Orean is where the fun is. Too bad for you Real Humans. You can not go there unless you receive an invitation. And that is not likely to happen.
